that's what you want to do."
They discussed every aspect of Chris's impending decision. Andrea ultimately encouraged him to take some time to consider his options.
Two days later Chris called her. "I want the island job," he announced. "I've spent the last couple of days going through the apartment and I can get everything I want to take into three large suitcases. But, I'd like you, if you could, to come over and look things over." She agreed and arrived the next morning.
Oa Dr. Smith's recommendatin, Chris acquired a safe deposit box for his parents jewelry, stocks, bonds and other valuables. Andrea contacted a reputable auction company for him and arranged for the sale of everything else. After several exhausting hours together, Andrea eyed Chris's haggard face. "Chris?" she asked. "Are you okay? You don't look too good."
He sank into a chair. "Oh, I've just had a hard time sleeping lately what with all the emotional strain, and now this job decision and the preparations. Those pills you gave me at the hospital worked pretty well but they're long gone."
After a quick professional examination, she reached into the large black bag she always carried. "I'm going to give you some pills to relax you. They're different from the others you used but will have pretty much the same effect. And they'll help you through the next few days. .They are strong so don't take them if you're going to drive or operate heavy machinery." She grinned and handed him a large brown bottle full of white capsules.
"Ha, heavy machinery indeed!" he smiled back. He took a capsule and washed it down.
The following day, Dr. Smith's secretary called to invite him to dinner with Andrea that
evening. She greeted Chris at her door wearing a beautiful form-fitting, silk pantsuit that left little to his imagination. Andrea escorted him inside where another beautiful woman greeted him.. She was slightly older than Dr. Smith but no less attractive.
"Chris Davis," Andrea introduced, "I'd like you to meet Julia Miller."
Her hand was soft and her grip firm and warm. "My pleasure, and please call me Julia. I dislike formalities, especially in such an informal setting as this. May I call you Chris?""
"Uh..yes, please do," he stammered, stunned. Julia's bright revealing cocktail dress along with Dr. Smith's outfit made Chris feel out of place with these two gorgeous professional women.
Andrea said, "Julia is the clinic's attorney. She has all the necessary papers for you to sign before you leave tonight, but I thought we could have a nice dinner first and enjoy ourselves."
The supper was elegant, the steaks delicious, and Chris selfconsciously but willingly accepted the close attentions of his hostess and her guest while the wine flowed freely. They all helped clear away the table, then sat down to brandies. Finally, Julia produced a slim leather case full of official papers. As she handed Chris a pen, she explained, "We have designed a unique and hopefully rewarding position for you, Chris." She held up a handful of papers. "This amounts to a labor agreement very similar to those negotiated by unions and management, but tailored to your specific case, and our special needs. Shall we proceed?"
Chris nodded.
The number of documents surprised him, but after the first two or three it became much easier to sign than to wade through the legal jargon of the papers and he only half listened to Julia's
